PROJECT OVERVIEW
This MD 500 Super D conversion project marked Mt Hutt Aviation’s first completion of this comprehensive performance upgrade. The aircraft received a complete integration of proven MD 530F components, delivering significant improvements in performance, capability, and operational value.
A standout feature of this project was the aerodynamic and rotor system transformation. The conversion included longer main rotor blades for improved lift and hover margins, a larger F-model tail rotor providing enhanced yaw control, F-model vertical and horizontal stabilisers for improved directional stability, and a tail boom extension completing the aerodynamic package.
The result is up to 350 lb of additional useful load and substantially improved hot and high performance, transforming this MD 500 into a more composed, capable workhorse better suited to demanding utility operations without compromising the simplicity and reliability the platform is known for.
